Introduction	I wouldn't say that I'm particularly knowledgeable about food. Not like my friend Simon who makes salami in his closet. Also not like my friend Patrick who's been to all the finest restaurants in town and always brings some obscure wine or beer with him. I just love to eat. I love bold flavors and food with heat. I like simple tastes too. Good broth, steamed vegetables with a little salt, grilled salmon with a little salt.. In fact, anything with a little salt. Having a love for food, I was lucky to have grown up in Houston and in a family of great cooks. This background has driven my standards for certain cuisines very high. It's very easy for me to recognize mediocre Chinese and Taiwanese food. Same goes for BBQ, cajun and southern comfort foods. LA is a great place for food if you don't mind spending tons of money. Finding great cheap eats takes a little more work. Unfortunately, I don't believe in spending tons of money on food except for special occasions. On top of that, I live in West LA which is generally a culinary wasteland, especially when it comes to Chinese food. Those great, cheap hole-in-the-wall places are out there though. I'm out to find them!
