| Introduction | After working in Pediatric Physical Therapy for a number of years I realized that fitness and recreation programming for children with physical disabilities was lacking, especially in the U.P. So I set out to change this. It is amazing how far networking can lead. An opportunity was presented, and with perseverance and determination an adaptive XC ski program was developed right here in the Upper Peninsula! Smiling faces are the best reward...so invigorating! This program was started in my garage during the ski season of 2009-2010. I was finally able to get our first participant out in February of 2010, and now the program has boomed! The partnership with a local non-profit was what has made this program sustainable. The Superior Alliance for Independent Living is the primary sponsor, and are continuing to grow the program. This program was made possible by voicing a dream, and a community working together to make the dream a reality. We are blessed to live in such a great place, called the U.P. Please, enjoy a night out with our programs this winter. Think Snow, Ski, and Smiles. :) |
