| Introduction | I was born in Toronto, Ontario and am now an aspiring artist living in Kitchener, Ontario. I particularly love painting from observation and on location because I find it exciting. I never know what to expect: it could start raining, someone could move their car that I had included in my composition, or a beautiful cloud could appear in the sky.
It gives me a thrill to have to paint quickly to capture my reaction to a place. I also start to feel a deeper connection to places I paint directly from observation. I cannot help but notice the smells, sounds, temperature, and overall atmosphere. The result is a painting that reveals both the atmosphere of the location and how I was feeling on the day I painted it: I can paint the same place every day and every painting will look different. I think that is what makes my approach to painting interesting: I try to capture more than just a representational image of a place, but the atmosphere of the place as well. Each painting has a unique story that I try to tell. |
