Introduction Dr Christine Riefa studied law at the University of Montpellier (France) where she graduated top of her DEA Postgraduate class. She also obtained her PhD under the supervision of Professor Jean Calais-Auloy on the topic of "the Internet and market law - consumer protection and competition law". Her previous work (DEA dissertation) on "the consumer and the Internet" received the DGCCRF (Federal Trade Commission's French counter-part) prize for best dissertation. She also received the Montpellier University prize for best dissertation in Market law. She now teaches consumer law (amongst other subjects) at Brunel University (London) and has developed a solid research portfolio in the area of consumer and internet law. This includes her forthcoming monograph on the protection of consumers on online auction sites (Ashgate 2011), and a Fulbright scholarship spent in-residence at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in the USA in 2010/2011. Christine is an elected Member of the Board of the International Association of Consumer Law (www.iaclaw.org), and an editor of the newly created Journal of European Consumer and Market Law (euvr) published by Springer.
