| Interests | Walking in very high places with a pack on my back. Its not so much an interest as an affliction. I also like sailing Mullet boats, a type of craft that is based on a 100 year old design and raced in Auckland, New Zealand. Once again they are curiously difficult boats to sail; a 22 foot, centerboard sailing dinghy with an incredibly large sail area for such a small vessel and with 1 ton of lead ingots placed carefully under the cockpit sole which would mean that if you ever broach, you WILL sink. They are the Harley Davidsons of sailboats. You need a crew of 6 to race them and every year since 1920 the "L" class Mulleties race for the Lipton Cup, a gift to the Ponsonby Cruising Club from the tea baron, Sir Thomas Lipton. |
