Annie Hall and Manhattan), Vertigo (and virtually any other Hitchcock film), Casablanca (hell, anything starring Bogart, a carton of cigs, and a bottle of bourbon), The Godfather I and II, film noir (Sweet Smell of Success, Out of the Past, Double Indemnity, The Asphalt Jungle, Touch of Evil, Chinatown, etc...), any film starring James Dean (yeah, all 3 of them), Citizen Kane, The Good/Bad/Ugly, Unforgiven, films by the legendary Akira Kurosawa, films by Jean-Luc Godard, Batman films NOT made by Joel Schumacher (can you say ‘Bat-nipples’???), Japanese monster flicks, Scorsese (Raging Bull, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, The Departed, you name it…), Bergman and his damn existentialist vision, the ‘indulgent’ Fellini, the James Bond films (though I must say, Casino Royale is probably my favorite), the Star Wars films, Chasing Amy, City of God, Downfall, Apocalypse Now (the horror…the horror), On the Waterfront, JAWS, Catch Me If You Can, The Usual Suspects, Cast Away, King Kong (1933 and 2005…not 1976), Lawrence of Arabia, Grand Illusion, Cool Hand Luke, Kubrick (even if 2001 is overrated), Aliens, Heat, The Battle of Algiers, High Fidelity, Closer, A Place in the Sun, Silence of the Lambs, sci-fi/cold war paranoia films from the '50's and '60's…last but not least, the pure cinematic genius that is ROCKY IV… |
