| Introduction | I have been a middle school special education teacher in Texas for the past 11 years. The first 4, I taught Resource English/Language Arts. For the past 7 years, I have had self- contained life-skills class. While I teach students with a variety of disabilities, I have a special interest in those on the autism spectrum. I have taken workshops and done my own reading and investigation into this area as well as ID and Down’s Syndrome to better help those students in my room I wrote Let’s Talk About Being in Special Ed. ,a picture book that takes a young boy through the special education system and helps him understand the language, process and why we do what we do. It is available through the publisher, Jayjo Publishing and Amazon. I am currently working on my second book, Let’s Talk about Being a Child with Autism. This blog is my own ideas and reflections. Each child is unique. You may to take what you can and apply it if you would like or not. It is not intended to be a personal recommendation for any given child as that would be impossible without meeting the child. |
