IntroductionI don't deserve any credit for turning the other cheek as my tongue is always in it. About me? Why it is that of all the billions and billions of strange objects in the Universe: novas, quasars, pulsars, black holes-we are beyond doubt the strangest? How do we write about ourselves? Well, what do you expect? Total nonretention has kept my education from being a burden to me.I can, with one eye squinted, take it all as a blessing.
InterestsI am at this moment writing a lengthy indictment against our century. When my brain begins to reel from my literary labors, I make an occasional Welsh Rarebit. A firm rule must be imposed upon our nation before it destroys itself. The United States needs some theology and geometry, some taste and decency. I suspect that we are teetering on the edge of the abyss.

Favorite booksJourney to The End of The Night, Anything by Flannery O'Conner, Graham Greene, Walker Percy, Thomas Merton. Richard Rohr, Karl Rahner, Louis Ferdinand Celine, Bukowski. Father of the Beat Generation Jack Kerouac, was asked if he was a beatnik, He said .... "I'm not a beatnik. I'm a Roman Catholic!" The word "Beat" came from the beatitudes. Kerouac wrote... "Beat doesn't mean tired, or bushed, so much as it means beato, the Italian for beatific: to be in a state of beatitude, like Saint Francis, trying to love all life, trying to be utterly sincere with everyone, practicing endurance, kindness, cultivating joy of heart. How can this be done in our mad modern world of multiplicities and millions? By practicing a little solitude, going off by yourself once in a while to store up that most precious of golds: the vibrations of sincerity." "Jack Kerouac was enchanted by the mysticism of the Beatitudes."
