| Introduction | I have always taken my music very seriously. A child of 70’s music when music came through various types of what I refer to as a “music box”, that at the time included the onslaught of the portable phonograph and the portable radio (boom box) with an audio tape cassette attached to it. I used to bring 45 records and tapes to hang out on the stoop of my building to share music with friends and just have a good time listening and dancing to the music. I always loved a funky beat and sounds of funk bands of the 70’s and 80’s. I also grew up with the sounds of DJ Kool Herc, who played at the Hevelo, and at the park on Sedgwick Ave where he grew up (the Boogie Down Bronx). I am “a fan of what’s delicious” (Peven Everett) and get my “high from smoking soul” (Alfonzo Grier). I consider myself one of the hardest working women in Soul business and don’t see myself slowing down one bit, so don’t be surprised if you meet me in your daily travels doing what I love—passing on information about good soul music! |
