Introduction In every medical case a human story intertwines with the facts of illness. Caregivers who pay attention to their patients’ stories find a powerful synthesis with deep therapeutic value. I have practiced as a Nephrologist for over 30 years. Throughout my career I have been moved by my patients’ stories. Therefore, when I retired from academic medicine at Case Western Reserve University in 2005, I took formal workshops with the faculty in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University. In May 2010, I completed my Master's degree in Bioethics at Case Western Reserve University. During my Master's work at Case, I developed this project with the help of faculty in Medical Anthropology and Bioethics. To keep my Nephrology skills active, I work part-time as a substitute doctor, practicing in Ohio and as far as Colorado, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Michigan.
