About me

Location San Francisco, California, United States
Introduction Ed Decker: For over 28 years I have guided the work of other playwrights and created commissions for the New Conservatory Theatre Center in San Francisco. As the gay community continues to express moral outrage in the battle over same-sex marriage, queer voices outside the United States are largely silent. While we fight for civil liberties, they fight for their lives. And most of the time, they fight alone and in silence. This new play aims to capture voices from the world community and put them on stage in order to illustrate their parallels and deep connections to Americans’ struggle for civil liberties. Robert Leone: As someone who has worked in the field of Global Health for a number of years I have seen, through the eyes of field staff, and heard, thanks to conversations with people living in the developing world, the issues and conflicts facing citizens of Uganda, Nepal, Guatemala and other countries struggling with poverty and injustice. As my artistic focus has narrowed down to the plight of gay people whose rights are abused and even obliterated with little or no recourse I felt that I was in a unique place to bring this overlooked story into the light of day.
