Favorite booksMy own--HA! Trespassing by Uzma Aslam Khan (disclaimer: I'm married to her, but it's an amazing book anyway). Anything by Flannery O'Connor and Langston Hughes, the two best 20th century American storytellers IMO. Also: We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver, A Long Time Gone by Ishmael Beah, Oscar and Lucinda by Peter Carey, English Passengers by Matthew Kneale, Music and Silence by Rose Tremain, The God of Small Things by Arundhati Roy, Plainsong by Kent Haruf, The Grapes of Wrath and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, The Known World by Edward P. Jones.
