| Introduction | I scratch and fight with my materials and sometimes hear a tiny, grumbling, discouraging word floating through the air and wonder, "Who said that?" Then I realize it must have come from the guy standing in my shoes! There are times though when there is no scratching, no fighting, no unwanted words and painting seems as effortless as breath, and I get lulled back into thinking I have finally figured it all out, and say to myself, "Okay, now we're finally getting somewhere." These are the moments that keep me coming back again and again to painting. Then, I hear one of those floating words again... |
