| Introduction | Ariel Gout works with paper, ceramic and thread to create abstract drawings, installations, and, since her stay in Japan, ceramic sculptures. Mixing a French sense of beauty and a taste for finesse and details, her work expresses her interest for biological and botanical phenomena, such as growth, development and ephemerality. With her creations, she goes beyond the concrete organic phenomena and alludes to their metaphorical significations and relations with time and space. She is guided by the principles of balance and harmony among the natural world.She combines simple forms and applies the minimalist aesthetic principle of repetition to construct drawings and installations, mingling organic shapes and structures. With clay she works further around the tensions between density and lightness, durability and ephemerality, earth and air. Relying on the simplicity of materials, the delicacy of forms and surfaces, playing with space and settings, Ariel Gout poetically translates our concerns about the forces and fragilities of natural processes. Inviting contemplative pauses and free interpretations, her work encourage audiences to look anew at our environment and how we impact it. |
