About me

Introduction Alaine Shrewsbury is now in her 23rd year as a healthy vegan. Twenty years ago, she began teaching the green, conscious lifestyle; her passion is inspiring others to more well-being. In 1993, her first product, Alaine's Rainforest Cake, was sold in natural foods stores. Her Los Angeles business, Alaine's Bakery, was the first vegan, whole-grain, wheat-free,sugar-free bakery. With 13 employees, the bakery supplied stores and restaurants from San Luis Obispo to San Diego with fresh-baked pies, cakes, muffins, cookies, brownies, bars, mousses, tarts, parfaits, uncheesecakes - that were all healthy and recommended by holistic doctors. When asked, she created "on-camera" food for actors and actresses who were vegan or had other diet restrictions. In 1998, she began a gluten-free line - and was the only source for gluten-free cakes - doing every special order that came through any Whole Foods in Southern California and Arizona. Every Sunday for 13 years, her booth at the Farmers Market in Hollywood was a gathering place for hip customers, and she was featured there on "California's Gold" with Huell Howser.
Interests Since 2006, Alaine has been living in Northern California, caring (and cooking for) for her elderly parents, now 88 and 93. She loves her off-track Thoroughbred horse, although in 2009, she had a serious crash. But that subsequently demonstrated the healing power of her diet. She is currently creating a new meal bar for a Silicon Valley company, setting up a frozen dessert business, and writing a book, "Freaks on the Fringe: Healthy Vegans".
