| Introduction | Blog. Blawg. Blough. Any way you write it, it still strikes me as one of the most inelegant words in the English language, and lamely, that inelegance is part of what has kept me from doing this for so long. That and it seems like everyone and their next door neighbor has one. That and actually attempting to "be a writer" in any way, shape, or form terrifies me. No matter. It's time for me to jump in. And so. Why "life in hyphenate?" The short answer is that I want to write about my past lives through the lense of my current one. The challenge being that my current one (stay-at-home-mom) seriously clouds my ability to think thoughtfully about my past ones (basketball player, international aid worker, tsunami response survivor). Nevertheless, the longer I wait, the more I forget, and these things are important for me to recount, if only for my tiny tots (Z, three years old, and X, 9 months old). No matter how many blank journals I buy, I can't seem to fill them (even though I LOVE the way a book looks filled with handwritten thoughts). So, I will try it this way and see where it takes me. |
