Introduction Ms. Deborah Day is currently in her sixteenth year of teaching at Amity Senior High School and has taught all levels of Chemistry I as well as AP Chemistry. In 2006, Ms. Day was elected Instructor for the Science Research Program. Ms. Day earned a B.A. with a double major in Biology and Chemistry as well as a M.S. in Chemistry. Her thesis research “Platinum Nanoparticle Synthesis, Characterization and Interaction with Polymeric bis(methylthio)maleonitrile Derivatives” was conducted at SCSU. Summer research experience includes: 2008 Applied Physics with Mark Reed (Yale); 2010 Yale School of Medicine (Huang Lab); 2011 Externship via NSTA-UTC STEM. Ms. Day is a currently the Co-Chair of the Amity Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Committee and was a finalist in the 2010 CT Technology Council's "Women of Innovation". In spring 2012 she was also awarded the New England Secondary School Chemistry Teacher Award (CT) and Amity's Teacher of the Year. She was also one of 15 Semi-finalists for the 2013 CT Teacher of the Year.
