| Introduction | Bio in Part I was born in Chile, and transplanted in California after my parents moved here with my brother and me. I like to think that in my first year-and-a-half in Chile I was heavily imprinted by living on a small “gentleman’s farm”. My parents both worked for an advertising firm in Santiago, but rented a small farm outside of the city. As they tell it, my favorite activity was to call out to their farmhand, Manuel, to take me along with him on his daily rounds to feed the animals. He would sit me on top of the animal feed on the wheel barrel and off we’d go to feed the chickens, ducks and a pig. I worked many years in a biomedical career while raising two remarkable children, and currently live in Silicon Valley with my Belgian husband (a charming man with a French accent and chocolate, who could resist?) and our three dogs. |
