Introduction My name is Robyn Alice, and I am a retired U.S. Foreign Service Officer who has served in Washington, Russia, Uzbekistan, Romania, and Kazakhstan. The State Department was my second career, my first having been as an "attitude analyst" working with a NASA contractor. I am a woman, "an old Russia hand," and a lifelong bicyclist who in her quiet way has challenged and overcome many obstacles. With such a background, I have my own views and experiences in the Foreign Service life. I view my retirement in 2019 not much different from high school graduation. A new phase begins, and new adventures await! ------------------------------------- Although I was employed by the U.S. Department of State, the views expressed in the notes published here are strictly my own and do not necessarily represent the views of the Department of State or the U.S. Government.
Interests Things Russian -- т.е., люблю богатый руский язык, культуру, и друзей -- the starry sky, space, mountains, lakes, bicycling, and nostalgic romantic movies.
Favorite Movies Doctor Zhivago (U.S., British, **and** Russian versions), Admiral (love and war in Russian!), and all documentaries by Ken Burns.
Favorite Music I'm an "old folkie, " but I love WXPN radio from Philadelphia, the Decembrists, Машина времени, Борис Гребенщиков, Schooner Fare, Simon and Garfunkel, and KT Tunstall.
Favorite Books Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, almost any good science fiction novel about time travel and second chances (Replay, The Mirror, A Scientific Romance), and the memoirs of George Kennan, the great U.S. diplomat and scholar of Soviet/Russian affairs.
