File Sharing & the Global Future
My blogs
| Introduction | Our focus will be on how filesharing facilitates access to and availability of global forms of art and information. This new medium of exchange is changing the way that people approach traditional disciplines and create and market their own art. Websites such as Myspace and Youtube are creating forums in which unknown artists can receive regional, national, and international recognition. In addition, filesharing interfaces such as Limewire, Bearshare, and numerous torrent sites provide access to art and information in ways unprecedented. These mediums are connecting people and ideas around the world, while defying the conventions of the free market. However, these new ways of thinking about, sharing and creating art have faced much opposition regarding copyright infringement laws. We hope to provide readers with in depth information on and analysis about these topics to determine the future of art and filesharing. We will also encourage dialogue about how to think about and resolve some of the current controversies. |
