About me

IntroductionI am a research scientist who has been studying algae for over 13 years. I received my PhD at Harvard, did a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington, was the Director of Research for Bodega Algae and am currently a research scientist at the University of Washington and an Assistant Professor of Biology at Western Washington University. At Bodega Algae, I worked with a team of engineers, designers, and business folks to develop technology to advance the industrial uses of algae. In my academic work, I study algae in the ocean and their role in the carbon cycle and teach courses on algae, metagenomics, and conducting research.
Interestsalgae biofuel, algae and the global carbon cycle, using algae for remediation, evolution of algal groups, genomics, metagenomics
