| Introduction | So food and I have a mutual admiration which has survived a few lows through the many highs in the last two decades of us being a part of the "mutual admiration society". I still remember the first time I played with fire- Of course, I had to wait for the right opportunity! I was 7 and was not allowed to be in the kitchen without mom. It was a very pleasant October evening and mom and dad went out for an evening walk leaving my brother and I alone at home. That was my opportunity! I locked the main door very swiftly. I had already planned for days what I was going to cook once I get the opportunity. Out came the surprised tongs, rolling pin, oil, flour etc from their hiding places. And there I was - standing on a chair in front of the stove cooking my first parathas with my brother watching with appreciation. And that was just the beginning of my lifelong association with flour and oil. |
