| Introduction | I am the eldest of eight children, born of goodly parents; Loyal Hastings, all around great Dad, disciple of Christ, fun grandpa, career USAF pilot and my mom, Janice Mendenhall, descendant of Mormon pioneers, tireless mom, amazing cook, terrific grandma. Until I was 29, I never lived anywhere longer than three years. Since then I have lived for 25 years in the same house in Las Vegas. I just celebrated my 31st wedding anniversary with Michele Christensen, a true saint who daily lives what she believes. She also shows each day how much she loves me. We have raised six wonderful children. I am truly blessed by my wonderful family. I have tried to serve the poor and indigent for 23 years as a Deputy Public Defender here in Las Vegas. I have had great service opportunities nonstop during my life within the Mormon church, starting at age 19 with a two year mission to Samoa. I have also enjoyed serving with youth in the Boy Scouts. Recently I enjoyed a two day, overnight reenactment of a Mormon Pioneer trek pulling handcarts with 200 teenagers. I look forward to retirement with my wife, serving a mission together wherever called, and enjoying some traveling and our family. |
| Interests | The photograph above is of me and my sweetheart, Michele. My interests include enjoying raising grandbabies with Michele, collecting Stuph (certified packrat), meeting and getting to know new people, submersing myself in books, enjoying early morning reverie, dreaming of nomadic road trips, backcountry hiking, exploring little out of the way places, watching and helping things grow, creating sandcastles, building forts, watching clouds and sunsets, enjoying music of most kinds- esp. Classical piano music, being entranced by old films, Dutch oven cooking, being amazed by the internet, sharing new concepts in a teaching situation, and trying to share the joy of the Gospel with others. Past and present time restraints have kept me as a wannabe artist, wordsmith, and adventurer. I guess life is what you make of it.. |
