| Introduction | My friend Nanne breeds border collies at her sheep farm near Washington, Maine. Olive was sold as a puppy to a family in New Hampshire who kept her for 2½ years±. She seems to have been well cared for, but the family’s situation changed so that they felt they could no longer give Olive the attention a border collie needs, so she was returned. Nanne keeps several border collies on her farm to work the sheep; these border collies form a pack. Although they would be Olive’s brothers and sisters, they no longer recognized her as part of their pack and turned on her. Recognizing that keeping Olive on the farm would not work, Nanne asked me to foster her for a month or so until a permanent home could be found. Of course, Olive decided that she liked it at my house and that her permanent home should be with me. We are now an inseparable team. |
