| Introduction | I'm from Detroit. I'm Episcopalian (Anglican), and I consider that to mean I'm Catholic. I live in Oakland; I'm in school at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley; and I work at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. Eventually I'll blog about theological aesthetics, liturgy, Detroit, or other areas of interest, but first I'm posting some of my poetry and discussing it. |
| Interests | My PhD work is in theological aesthetics, focusing on the aesthetics of decay. I'm obsessively interested in my hometown, Detroit, as well. |
| Favorite movies | Skip that. I love movies, but never have "favorites." Instead, since they didn't ask, I'll give you a favorite visual artist: the photographer Francesca Woodman. Google her if you don't know her work; you'll thank me for it. I thank Paula Styer for introducing me. |
| Favorite music | I'm not a musician, but I sang alto in the choir at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Detroit, for several years, and grew to love church choral music. I prefer to listen to music I can sing along to, which includes choral music (if I know a part), but I own mostly rock. My absolute favorite ever is Joy Division. It suits every mood for me. Some other favorites are Bruce Cockburn, Sam Phillips, John Cale, Nico, His Name Is Alive, Velvet Underground, and the list goes on and on. |
| Favorite books | A Wounded Innocence: Sketches for a Theology of Art by Alejandro García-Rivera, AfterCulture: Detroit and the Humiliation of History by Jerry Herron, Diego Rivera: The Detroit Industry Murals by Linda Banks Downs |
