| Introduction | Philip Haskins lives in a small village in East Yorkshire. The village is kindly placed in the lower sections of the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds, rolling chalk hills formed 100 million years ago in the Cretaceous period. A lifelong interest and participation in exercise and sport of various kinds led him in 2008 to try out his first triathlon at the age of 37; an event which was to ignite a competitive spirit which has seen him complete quite a few more triathlons and local running events. Only modestly endowed, the only honours he left with from this participation were his own. This interest has though provided professional avenues and in 2013 Philip co-organised a Cycle Sportive for the local area, the Heart of the Wolds Sportive (www.woldssportive.co.uk) which received sufficiently positive feedback to encourage Philip (and co-organiser Adam Hardy of Sports Lab) to run the event again in 2014. This partnership has also jumped on the Tour de France in Yorkshire bandwagon, organising a series of day long accompanied rides around Stage 1 of this most famous of bike races (www.ridethetourstage1.co.uk). |
