| Introduction | The Billfish Research Project was co-founded by Jamie Walker and Kerwin Steffen, owners of Frenzy Sportfishing in Quepos, Costa Rica. We have assembled a team of talented individuals from the scientific, sportfishing, photography / videography and communications fields to design, conduct and communicate the results of sound scientific research. The initial research project will be based out of Quepos, Costa Rica in collaboration with Frenzy Sportfishing. During the Proof of Concept phase of this project, the team will deploy pop-up satellite tags (PSATs) in one or more billfish. The team will be using leading edge solar powered PSATs to gather information on location, depth, water temperature and other measuremts to determine the migration patterns of billfish off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The mission of The Billfish Research Project is to pursue collaborative efforts between the science and sportfishing communities to enhance the billfish research knowledge base. |
