| Introduction | Marlon DarbeauĀ is a Designer, he is also a collaborator at the Alice Yard art-space initiative. He comes from a family tradition of making things in a workshop that was at home or very close to home. He has become very interested in how those traditions intersect with his practice as a graphic designer, and in using this convergence to formulate ways of making his work. |
| Interests | Through design I seek to investigate the relationship between utilitarian objects, people and place. My interest is in the reinterpretation of traditional and or familiar things, with an intent to developing new, surprising, beautiful and desirable objects. Each object echoes the value of working with different types of makers and technologies and so provides the basis for creating sustainable processes and relationships which can have positive impacts on our local value systems. My family traditions of making (metal work and woodworking) as well as my practice as a graphic designer influence my way of working. This process employs drawing studies, paper model studies, prototyping and the consideration of the implications material and making methods have on intent. I also employ the formality of naming for attempting to connect identity, function and essence as they relate to each object. |
