About me

LocationAlton, ME, United States
IntroductionOur wildlife preserve, located in central Maine outside Bangor comprises 2400 pristine acres featuring a diversity of plant and animal life. Our walking trails pass by bogs, pine forest, beaver lodges, snake pits and ancient archaeological sites. In addition to land conservation and research projects, Hirundo has conducted archaeological excavations on prehistoric sites dating 7,000 years ago, one of the longest occupied sites in inland Maine. Animal House, a program affliated with Hirundo and on the premises, rescues and relocates injured wild animals. Unique to Hirundo is the canoe-guided Interpretive Trail led by naturalists.
