Introduction The St. Helier Pub Group is a group of local volunteers who have been campaigning for three years to save The Morden Tavern Pub, St Helier Estate. The campaign is working on a business plan to purchase the lease of one of the units to be built on the site as a co-operative pub, with shares brought by local investors. If you believe a community owned bar run by and for the residents of St Helier is a good idea, please support our campaign. You can also view our Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/MordenTavern
Interests It has been guaranteed by the planning inspector that a small bar/pub/ restaurant will remain on the site of the Morden Tavern once it has been developed. The Campaign has an approved business plan based on eliciting local potential shareholders, to run the bar / pub by purchasing the lease and making it into a co-operative, owned and run by local people. Shares will be £250 each. (Groups can buy a single share between them so that anyone who wants to participate is able to do so affordably). The benefit of a co-op is that it would be run democratically by a large group of people, all of whom have a vested interest in it succeeding. It would empower the community by having control of the bar/pub and could promote participation, partnership, inclusion, integration and cohesion. It would also create jobs. Please support our campaign to purchase the leasehold of the bar/pub that has been guaranteed on the site to create a community hub for the residents of St Helier.
