| Introduction | My name's Morgan Hardy, and I'm a graduate student at Murray State University with (among others) a research interest in communication in virtual worlds, as well as advertising within video games. I've been playing in virtual worlds since 1994 with the original Neverwinter Nights, and have hence played in more than I can count. In the past, I've had numerous aliases - ObscureAuthor, SomersetCollins, CranmerThomas, Drago, Scarmasutra, Riprend. Hopefully, I've settled on this one. Changing identities is fun! I've found that it lets me make controversial statements then disappear and make them again elsewhere undetected. I think I've broken myself of that habit, though. At any rate, the purpose of this blog is to encourage discussion of virtual worlds, specifically in the languge of communication. Like it or not, virtual worlds has a great shot of being our next television, radio and newspaper, and it's important that we begin examining the field from this perspective. |
