Introduction In 2004 my husband and I set off to find a rumored deposit of the extremely rare vivid green chrome tourmaline in a distant and enigmatic village in Tanzania. A place called Nabarera. After many, many hours on outrageously bad roads, struggling through lashings of heavy, drenching rains and with a driver we eventually realised was high as a kite on dope .. we simply could not find the village. - What we did find is that the journey itself was an adventure. We met the most fascinating people and saw nature at its best and worst. The trip filled us with vitality and has subsequently become my life's lesson. - Life is truly what happens during the journey. - Don't ever focus so much on the destination that you miss out on the business of living. - Even if you do not reach your initial goal, you may find that your own odyssey has blessed you with experiences richer than you could ever have imagined at the outset... this is a collection mostly of our 'living' and sometimes just'surviving' times since moving to Tanzania. ...Twice.
