| Introduction | I'm a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. In addition to working full time for more than twenty-five years until my retirement, I have been an activist/volunteer for more than forty years. I've more recently been advocating for adults and especially for a beloved family member who has been struggling with an eating disorder for a very long time. We know now that an eating disorder is a brain disorder; not some choice or borne from the desire to look thin, for example. I am a supporter of the National Alliance for Eating Disorders, the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), F.E.A.S.T., the Eating Disorders Coalition for Research, Policy and Action (EDC), and the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI). I am a member of the Academy of Eating Disorders (AED). I love to hike, read and putter in our yard where I've created a meditating walking path. For years my passion was trail running - I have completed the Grand Canyon Double three times - and given a choice I'd love to live in the mountains with a view of the ocean. |
