Introduction	On Nov. 5, 2009, Publishers’ Weekly announced its Top 10 Books. Neither women and nor poets made the cut. As a woman and a poet, I was incensed, and the year of reading women was born. However, immediately upon vowing to explore the breadth and depth of women's work, I had to admit to a certain trepidation. While there is no dearth of women among award-winning novelists – Hilary Mantel, Herta Muller, Elizabeth Strout, just to name a few – my passions are poetry and nonfiction. Will I find enough great writing to fill my year? Will I have to compromise my interests? Will I miss men's voices?
