| Introduction | My career is about improving the satisfaction and safety of software customers and development workers. I approach this multidimensional area from many angles--as a programmer, software tester, tech writer, author (books), engineering consultant, manager and director of product development, organization development consultant, and attorney focused on the law of software quality. In 1999 I decided to focus, for a while, on improving the teaching of software testing. Testing is a large part of every software project. Product (and thus social) consequences of inadequate testing are enormous. But universities teach little about it, and many commercial courses (and industry certifications) on testing seem permanently stuck in the 1980's. We must foster a new generation of test architects, who can develop paradigms for testing that reflect the changes of the rest of software engineering—with educational opportunities open and affordable to serious testers anywhere in the world.
