| Introduction | Emily Palmer is a reporter, novelist and travel enthusiast. Hailing from Durham, North Carolina but currently living in New York City, Emily is an M.S. candidate at Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, where she is a Stabile Investigative scholar focusing on investigative and broadcast journalism. She graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill Magna Cum Laude in May 2014 with a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Global Studies and a minor in Creative Writing. In 2011, she published her debut novel, The Gingerbread Philosophy, available online and in select stores. While in college she received more than $30,000 in funding to travel to 11 countries across Europe and Asia, interviewing Singaporean women about national identity and tracing the evolution of Mr. Darcy’s Pemberley estate in film adaptations of Pride & Prejudice. (Publication pending.) Emily spent a summer following Ernest Hemingway’s transformative journey from journalist to novelist across continental Europe. With an eye toward becoming a foreign correspondent, Emily is a former intern for Bloomberg, LLP’s Communications Department in London and ABC11 Eyewitness News’s investigative unit in Durham. |
