| Introduction | For 60 years (1908 -1968) Dutchman Frits Wiersma lives for his sport. He starts as a racing cyclist (1908 - 1927) and is a motor pacer since 1928. Although he is quite a succesful cyclist, who can make a living out of his races, the pacer years become his golden years. Frits Wiersma is my grandfather. Today publications about Frits and and his contemporaries are scarce. And motor pacing, with heavy bikes, untill the 50's these races are major sportevents, is a thing of the past in The Netherlands. By telling and illustrating their stories, I want to record a part of my family history, and also make a contribution to the Dutch Bycicle History. Please remember that I am a working guy. So do not expect changes every day, or always a quick response. |
