Introduction I'm an ex-student. A vegetarian ex-student. A vegetarian ex-student who studied English Language and French at the University of Sussex in Brighton. I spent the 2007-8 academic year on my year abroad (in Marseille, France) which is when I started the blog. It was a way of keeping my family and friends back in England updated with what I was up to without racking up gigantic phone bills. I enjoyed my degree. I originally wanted to be an EFL Teacher, I even did the CELTA. I still get excited about grammar, about the present perfect continuous and phrasal verbs. But it's not a career I want to fall into. I love speaking French too and learning new words. Now I've finished my degree I miss my Student Discount. I miss my title of 'Student' too. I'm a Project Worker now, a far cry from an EFL teacher. I've swapped my international students for rough sleepers and my text books for substance misuse and harm minimisation leaflets. I've decided to stay in Brighton, for a while at least. I might do a Masters, you never know. But, at present, I'm quite happy being a Project Worker. I'd still like to travel mind, maybe teaching as I go. But we'll see - at present I'm just fine where I am.
Interests Reading, Writing, Travelling, Music, Radio 1, Current Affairs, English Grammar, France and all things French, Animals, Walking my dog, Socialising - meeting for coffee/going out for a meal/going to the cinema, Cooking, Being a Vegetarian, Going outside on a clear night and gazing up at the stars, football, cycling.
Favorite Movies Le Diner de Cons, 10 Things I hate about you, Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run, Sliding Doors, The Lake House, Waking Ned, The Painted Veil... I wasn't a big film watcher until I came to France... Once, American Gangster, A la Croisee du Monde (Philip Pullman's 'Northern Lights' - I think it was called 'The Golden Compass' in England.) Il etait une fois ('Enchanted' in England), Reviens Moi ('Atonement' in England), Asterix aux Jeux Olympiques, Quatre Minutes, (even if it was in German - thank goodness for the French subtitles!) Juno, Survivre avec les Loups
Favorite Music The Killers, Kooks, Snow Patrol, The Fray, Paolo Nutini, Take That, Rihanna, Razorlight, Arctic Monkeys, Oasis, Coldplay, Nelly Furtado, James Blunt, Avril Lavigne, Meatloaf, Kate Nash, Lily Allen, Scissor Sisters, The Feeling, Robbie Williams, anything along these lines really. I guess I should add Christophe Mae and Calogero or just anything on Cherie FM. My favorite songs are 'Iris' by the Googoo Dolls and 'Said it all' by Take That.
Favorite Books Harry Potter, Jane Eyre, The Rats of Nymph (I read it when I was like 8 but I rememebr it still now so I guess that makes it a good book)! To Kill a Mockingbird, Ian Rankin's 'Rebus' novels. Partial to a bit of Marc Levy (Et si c'etait vrai)or Rankin en francais. When I lived in Marseille I enjoyed Le Marseille Plus, Le Vingt Minute et Le Metro, oh and let's not forget Le Direct Soir! Now I'm more into the Guardian.

Unlike a dog, how can a turtle ever be naked?

Umm, well. You could, if you were feeling cruel, shave off all a dog's fur. I think you might have trouble doing this with a turtle and I wouldn't fancy attempting to remove it's shell...
