Introduction I can't remember a time I wasn't growing and making things. 100 chicks brooding in the bathtub was pretty normal. Foraging with my granny, checking the bees with my grandpa, eating a freshly dug turnip piece off my other grandpa's pocket knife in his garden. Pasteurizing milk with my aunt, sewing with my mom, making noodles to dry with my grandma. One of my early memories is of my parents putting up bushels of peaches and it taking what seemed like forevvvver. Just as my grandparents and aunt and uncle, we built our 2400 square foot house from scratch when I was 13, only having the concrete work contracted out. Child labor was expected, and I learned a lot. While building the house, the five of us lived in a large 2 room shed without running water, but we did have electricity. We used the wood stove to heat water for baths in a #3 tub. Yep. Very old school. I was expected to break the water for the pigs and feed the chickens before breakfast. Farm life. Self-sufficiency. Sustainability. Organic. It's always been a part of my life.
