Introduction	Michael Meredith PhD., MSc., CEng., MIET., MBCS (ret) started his professional career in the Ministry of Aviation, then progressed to the research and design of electronic systems. As a project manager, and then an independent consultant in the commercial sector, he worked with such companies as Reuters, Westinghouse, ICL and GEC. On becoming a Principal Lecturer, with what is now the University of Wales Newport, he instigated and chaired international conferences for the automated design of advanced micro-chips for complex, multi-disciplined systems.During his career he achieved a wide range of recognition.
