Why does the color blue mean raspberry-flavored?

I have always pondered this same question. Maybe it is because the food manufacturers were sick of making things red, and just didn't want to add to the confusion. Cherry: red, Strawberry: red, Watermelon: pinkish-red, pomegranate: also red. What other fruit is blue besides blueberries? And WHY isn't blueberry a common flavor for candy??
