| Introduction | There are only so many years you can stand on your feet, no matter how much you love being a salon owner-hairstylist/color specialist. After 36 years, it was time for a change. I obtained my bachelor's degree in psychology in 2007, at the age of 46. At the same time, social media emerged, and everyone needed great portraits. My hobby of photography accidentally grew into another career. In 2013 my family was blessed with my first grandchild. We soon realized he was the greatest gift our family had ever received and became my inspiration. At two, he was non-verbal and diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. After six months of speech-language therapy, he spoke his first word and my life was forever changed. In 2018 I obtained a license as a speech-language pathologist assistant. Later that year, I became an special education/autism teacher, at the age of 57. The common thread in each of my careers is building confidence in others. It's what I'm most passionate about: Empowering people by helping to build confidence in themselves. |
