About me

IntroductionI am an anthropologist, sustainable development strategist and eco-educator who loves to beachcomb. An hour of “combing” lifts my spirit, eases worry, and reminds me of all that is good in the world. Beachcombing offers people a positive way to transform their lives at little or no cost. The planet benefits, too, because beachcombers are “willing stewards” of the shoreline environment. To promote these ideas and also honor the beneficence of the beach and her waterways, I write articles, hold workshops and lecture on the beachcomb experience. I also chair the International Beachcombing Conference where novice and consummate beachcombers alike spend a weekend exchanging info with beachcomb experts, authors and scientists. Finally, my book, "A Beachcomber's Odyssey, Vol. I: Lessons from the Shore,” shares inspirational life lessons interwoven with beautiful photos, beachcomb tips, and history and science facts on sea glass, shells, fossils, etc. In 2009, it received the "Books for Better Living" gold medal, Honorable Mention for Best Self-Help Book, and was short-listed for Cover of the Year.
