Introduction I am a retired college professor who was first exposed to jazz by my older brother in the 1950s. At the age of 12, I was exposed to records by Gerry Mulligan, Modern Jazz Quartet, Lennie Niehaus, and others. The first jazz record I owned was Ray Charles at Newport, a gift from that big brother. Other early acquisitions were the Henry Mancini Peter Gunn albums and Kind of Blue, followed by Art Blakey’s Blue Notes, the Coltrane Impulse records and many more. Sadly, these records were abused in dorm rooms to the point of destruction, but they have all been replaced. Sixty-five years after my initial exposure to jazz I continue to collect, listen to, and enjoy jazz of the past seven decades. This is my first experience as a blogger. My second experience as a blogger is a projects with my son on progressive rock, which I also developed a love for in the late 1960s.
