| Favorite Movies | I always find lists hard. But I'd include Brief Encounter, Now Voyager, The Company of Wolves, Local Hero, Maurice (and other Merchant Ivory films), and Babette's Feast. |
| Favorite Music | Polyphonic choral works (such as Gregorio Allegri, William Mundy, Thomas Tallis, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina), Samuel Barber, most operas by Puccini, and increasingly Baroque music. Oh, and quite a lot of 80s/early 90s pop. |
| Favorite Books | On the Black Hill by Bruce Chatwin, the original books of the 'Tales of the City' series by Armistead Maupin, and anything by Bill Bryson, Patrick Gale, and Barbara Pym. I loved "The Shipping News" by Annie Proulx. I was recently impressed by 'The Charioteer' by Mary Renault - an evocative rendition of wartime Bristol - and I found Hilary Mantel's novels on Cromwell addictive. |
