Introduction I grew up between Homer, Alaska (summers) and Hilo, Hawaii (winters). After studying philosophy and English at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington, I earned my Master's in Education and Special Education from Manhattanville College in New York. I taught for two years in Greenwich, Connecticut before returning to my childhood home of Anchor Point, where I have been teaching middle school language arts and science for three years. This year, I also teach 2nd and 3rd grade science and social studies. In the summers, my family and I gillnet for red salmon in Bristol Bay. I am expecting my first baby, a boy, around Thanksgiving of this year.
