| Introduction | After a lifetime of studying dance, the last 17 of which have been dedicated to West African dance and the last 7 of which have been with Guinean dance, I enthusiastically took my first trip to Guinea, West Africa in December 2007. As I prepared to take this life changing journey, I knew that I had an obvious opportunity to give back to this place that had given me so much. As a teacher of young children in a school community, (New Discovery School in Seattle, Washington), that values their children and education, I clearly saw an opportunity to make a connection with the children in Guinea and to make a difference because of it. Focusing on my dear friend, Karim Koumbassa's family and community in Conakry, Guinea, we put on our first fundraising show with music and dance at New Discovery School. To date we have raised over $25,000 for children's education. Please read my blogs about the trip and the allocation of the funds that we raised as well as the ongoing process of Guinea Kids Education Fund. We continue to grow in ways I never imagined... |
