| Introduction | James Parrish has been interested in documenting everyday life since his dad introduced him to a tape recorder around age 5. Since then James developed interests in storytelling, oral history, film, TV, comedy, music, performance, home movies, nonprofits, media arts, film festivals, personal and community change through art, unschooling, Waldorf education, comics, the South, community-building ... and the list goes on! James has more than 23 years of experience in development for higher education and nonprofits and is currently the Director of Foundation Relations for Virginia Commonwealth University's Office of Development and Alumni Relations. In addition he is founder of the Richmond Flicker (a showcase for Super 8 and 16mm films that ran from 1998-2008), co-founder of the James River Film Society and he is currently working to establish the Bijou Film Center, an independent, nonprofit art house cinema and cafe in Richmond's downtown arts district. |
