| Introduction | I run Fidra Books, a small publishing company specialising in reprinting unjustly neglected children's fiction. At the beginning of November, we're also opening a children's bookshop in Edinburgh. Apart from that, I'm a wife and mother, Archers fan, would-be domestic goddess and inveterate scruff who spends her life working, ferrying The Dude (7 going on 13) around, book-hunting, dreaming of escaping urban Edinburgh for a small-holding in Cornwall, feeling vaguely inferior compared to the capable yummy-mummyness of many of the other parents at The Dude's school and not doing enough housework, whilst attempting to spend more time horse-riding, cooking, gardening, sailing, reading in the bath and seeing friends. I also just about find time to maintain simmering grudges against SUVs, celery, Dan Brown, the City of Edinburgh Council, Edinburgh parking attendants (otherwise known as Blue Meanies) and the joiners who converted our attic. |
