Introduction Adrian Burgos is an associate professor of US history at the University of Illinois. He was educated at Pompano Beach Ely High School, Orange County(NY)Community College (A.A.), Vassar College (B.A.), and the University of Michigan where he received his Ph.D. in 2000. He played varsity baseball in high school and at Vassar College where he co-captained team as a senior. He also began his exploration of the history of Latinos and baseball at Vassar in writing a senior's thesis on baseball's introduction to the Caribbean. He was a contributing author to "Shades of Glory: The Negro Leagues and the Story of African-American Baseball." He also served on the 2006 Special Election Committee on the Negro Leagues for the Baseball Hall of Fame.
